Forgotten Fibre screening at Green Visions Potsdam

Congratulations to Bristol-based Director Tristan Sherfield and the whole team behind short documentary Forgotten Fibre, which has been selected to screen this Sunday 25th May at the Green Visions Festival in our fellow UNESCO City of Film, Potsdam.

The film is one of just 7 selected for a showcase of shorts made in the 350 UNESCO Creative Cities. It will represent Bristol (UK) alongside Angoulême (France), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bogota/Santiago de Cali (Colombia), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Potsdam (Germany). The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers, moderated by Lisa Nawrocki (Director, Potsdam UNESCO City of Film).

Forgotten Fibre delves into the fascinating world of wool and its potential as a sustainable textile, while also exploring the macro concerns of the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry.

The film’s extraordinary journey has seen it screen at a dozen festivals around the world – including Kendal Mountain Festival (UK), Fastnet Film Festival (Ireland), Climate Action Film Festival (USA), Busan Inter-City Film Festival (South Korea), Bolton Film Festival (UK), Bath Arcaeo-Heritage Film Festival (UK), Covent Garden Film Festival (UK), Sunrise Film Festival (UK), Shirley Film Festival (USA), Lowestoft Film Festival (UK), British Documentary Film Festival (UK), and the Inter-City Film Festival in Busan, another of our fellow UNESCO Cities of Film. It has won a total of eight awards throughout its run, in fields of sustainability, editing and documentary filmmaking.

The film’s positive undertone and folksy, crafty vibe have struck a chord with viewers, encouraging them to reflect on their own consumption habits and seek more sustainable alternatives. Beyond festival screenings, it has resonated with audiences at the WonderWool Wales, sparking engaging Q&A sessions and inspiring discussions about sustainable fashion. The filmmakers have also been interviewed by Simply Crochet magazine, sharing their filmmaking experience and what they have learned personally through the project.

Forgotten Fibre has also achieved ALBERT accreditation, recognizing the production team’s dedication to sustainable filmmaking practices.

The team says: “Forgotten Fibre is more than just a film; it’s a call to action. By raising awareness about the environmental and social consequences of the fashion industry, we hope to encourage viewers to make more sustainable choices and support ethical brands.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been involved in this project, from our dedicated crew to our supportive community. Your love and support have been instrumental in bringing this film to life. This journey has inspired us to continue creating impactful films that address sustainability and the climate crisis. As we cherish our planet, let’s commit to protecting it from harm.”
