Walking in Cary’s footsteps

This Summer, members of the public have been enjoying the opportunity to get closer to one of Hollywood’s biggest icons, and the Bristol streets he knew and loved.

‘RAISING CARY GRANT: The Bristol Footsteps of Archie Leach’ is an immersive walking tour presented by Show of Strength in partnership with the Cary Comes Home Festival.

The 90 minute walking tour gives fans the chance to hear the extraordinary story of Cary Grant as you walk the streets of his home city.

Born Archie Leach in Bristol in 1904, he rose from poverty to become the most famous – and best dressed – movie star in the world. And yet he never forgot his Bristol roots, returning regularly all his life.

The guided tour reveals the landscapes of his childhood, and the changed Bristol he found after the Second World War.

Bristol docks, the city’s theatres and cinemas, hotels, shops and restaurants – all the places he came back to time and time again, places that forged his complex character and glittering Hollywood career. Interwoven throughout is a family background as potent as that landscape.
