All Set West is an award-winning BFI National Lottery-funded skills package that is helping power up careers, grow connections and unlock opportunities behind the camera for entry-level production talent across the West of England.

It is delivered by The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office (the three teams within Bristol City Council’s Film Services) in partnership with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

The package includes:

  • The All Set West Hub: an inclusive digital platform that connects local entrants with the latest opportunities, events and resources to support their first steps in the screen industry. Entrants register free for an ‘All Set West Community’ account, to gain access to a range of information to support early career development, including work experience and trainee call outs, training schemes, networking events, workshops, open days, useful guides and toolkits. Up-to-date information is added by ‘Industry Connectors’, a network of established production professionals, companies and screen sector organisations, who log in via their own accounts to add opportunities as they arise.
  • All Set West Training: a free, five week programme delivered online and in person at The Bottle Yard Studios, help equip entrants with the skills and knowledge to begin an on-set career in scripted film and TV production. Sessions focuses on confidence-building, set etiquette and work-readiness, communication skills and teamwork, wellbeing and resilience, as well as digital and financial literacy and how to find work as a freelancer. When Training is completed, participants are matched to placements on active productions at The Bottle Yard Studios, where possible. Support is targeted at regional people from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the industry, and an Access Fund is available to those who face a financial barrier to taking part. Productions engaged so far include Rivals (Disney+), Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV+), The Seven Dials Mystery (Netflix), Boarders (BBC), The Dream Lands (BBC) and The Forsytes (C5).
  • All Set West Outreach: Targeted engagement with colleges, universities and community groups in the West of England region to demystify the industry and widen awareness of film/TV production careers.
  • All Set West Research: In depth analysis into regional industry skills gaps that will inform a future strategy for addressing workforce development and retention challenges.

All Set West launched in May 2025, following a pilot year (‘The West of England Film/TV Workforce Development Programme’) which saw 47 local entrants participate in Training, 32 of whom went on to secure paid work in the industry.

In November 2025, All Set West was named Best Industry Skills Initiative at the annual Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards. Judges described it as “a skills initiative that delivers real, measurable change, with its inclusive focus and innovative approach to building a new creative pipeline.”
