Bristol film & TV production worth £20.8m in 2021-22

Annual figures released today by Bristol Film Office show that film and TV production in the city generated an estimated £20.8 million in 2021-22, a 22% increase on pre-pandemic figures and the largest contribution that filming-related activity has made towards Bristol’s economy in a decade.

Flying the flag for Bristol at the 2022 UCCN Annual Conference

Last week saw the welcome return to an in-person UCCN Annual Conference (18-24 July) after the global disruption of the pandemic. The 2022 edition took place in the host city of Santos – our fellow City of Film – and we caught up with our UNESCO City of Film Manager Natalie Moore, who was there to fly the flag for Bristol.

‘Go West! 2’ report highlights rapid growth of Bristol’s screen industry

The screen industry in Bristol UNESCO City of Film is booming, with turnover increasing by more than 100% in the last five years, according to new research from UWE Bristol, but more could still be done to further boost its development and expansion.

Depict’22 invites filmmakers to submit ultra-short films from across the globe

Submissions are now open for Depict ’22 – Watershed’s ultra-short film competition part of Encounters Film Festival committed to uncovering emerging filmmaking talent since 1998.  The Bristol City of Film-based competition is calling for creatives from around the world to submit their shorts in 90 seconds or under to be considered for this year’s shortlist and Awards.

Meet the makers of Bristol Netflix short TEGAN

Today, Netflix launches ten short documentaries backed by its inaugural Documentary Talent Fund. Bristol-based filmmakers Ngaio Anyia and Aodh Breathnach were one of the ten teams from across the UK who successfully pitched to receive £40,000 to create their own short, answering the brief: “Britain’s Not Boring And Here’s a Story”. £12m expansion works underway at The Bottle Yard Studios
